Drugmaker Pfizer Inc. has approved the sale of its anti-cholesterol drug, Diflucan, to the U. S. Food and Drug Administration, according to a release from the company.
The drugmaker has been approached by the drug maker for shares of Pfizer, the world’s biggest drug maker, which is expected to be up and running in the coming days.
In the release, Pfizer’s stock was up 11 cents at C$13.50, to $25.30. The company said Pfizer “has reached an agreement with the FDA to sell Pfizer’s Diflucan products to the general public for the treatment of fungal and HIV infections, as well as a number of other conditions,” the release said.
The drugmaker said the sale would also give it more control over pricing, which is also part of the deal Pfizer is negotiating with the FDA.
Pfizer’s share price was down 1.8% on the New York Stock Exchange after the stock closed at $24.68 on Friday at $21.26. The stock’s closing was slightly above the 52-week high of $55.55.
The announcement comes as Pfizer is facing intense competition from other drugmakers amid a global pandemic. The company has a pipeline of new drugs, including a vaccine that could have the ability to prevent cancer.
The company has also been working on a new cholesterol-lowering drug, the drug company said.
Pfizer has said that it would not launch a generic version of the cholesterol drug until a new product is developed and sold, the company said. The company is also working with regulatory authorities on a potential new cholesterol drug, the company said.
“We are very pleased to work with Pfizer to secure a potential market for Diflucan,” Pfizer CEO Robert Coury said in a statement.

In the past year, the company has been able to sell more than 8,000 drugs and medicines, including three of the most-prescribed drugs, to patients across the U. S., the company said.
The company has agreed to pay $25.5 million to resolve more than 30,000 lawsuits involving adverse events linked to the drugmaker’s use of the drug, including one that caused the death of a woman who was taking an anti-depressant. The drugmaker said it will pay the remaining $500 million to resolve the cases.
The company will also provide $50 million to settle civil suits brought by about 1,000 men who were diagnosed with depression and anxiety during the use of the drug. The drugmaker agreed to settle more than 1,000 lawsuits and to reimburse patients for any medical care they may be required under the new program.
The company’s announcement comes after a long history of illegal sales practices. The company’s drugmaker said it will continue to work with regulators, including the FDA, to make sure drugs meet the company’s stringent safety and regulatory standards.

Avoid taking fluconazole with a full glass of water. Alcohol can interfere with the absorption of fluconazole and increase the risk of side effects. If you drink large amounts of alcohol while taking fluconazole, you may be at risk of developing severe liver damage.
Fluconazole may cause side effects, such as nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, constipation, diarrhea or loss of appetite.
Fluconazole is used to treat serious fungal or yeast infections, including vaginal candidiasis, oropharyngeal candidiasis (thrush, oral thrush), esophageal candidiasis (candida esophagitis), other candida infections (including urinary tract infections, peritonitis [inflammation of the lining of the stomach], and infections that may occur in different parts of the body), or fungal (cryptococcal) meningitis. It is also used in children on life support called extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). This medicine works by killing the fungus or yeast, or preventing its growth. Fluconazole is also used to prevent candidiasis in patients having bone marrow transplants who receive cancer or radiation treatment.

DIFLUCAN® ONE is administered orally. Use in AdultsFor vaginal candidiasis, fluconazole 150 mg (DIFLUCAN® ONE) should beadministered as a single oral dose. The median time to onset of symptom relief following a 150 mg single oral dose for thetreatment of vaginal candidiasis is one day. The range of time to onset of symptomrelief is one hour to nine days. Use in ChildrenSingle dose fluconazole is not recommended for use in children under 18 years of ageexcept under doctor supervision.
Side Effects
Common fluconazole side effects include nausea, headache, and stomach pain. Diarrhea is also possible. Mild side effects tend to resolve on their own or go away when you finish your treatment course. Thrush is a fungal infection, commonly caused by a type of yeast called candida. Although candida is naturally present in the body, an imbalance can trigger thrush symptoms. Fluconazole 150mg (also known as Diflucan and other brand names) kills certain types of fungi and restores your body's natural balance.
Fluconazole treatment for thrush is simple - just one capsule to be swallowed with a glass of water. You can take this medicine at any time of day, with or without a meal.
Women taking fluconazole should see an improvement within a few days. Some women will notice improvement in 24 hours.
For men, the condition can take a little longer to clear up. The symptoms should clear up within a few days, although this can take up to a week.
If your condition hasn't cleared up within one week, you should consult a doctor.
Thrush is an infection which can occur without sexual contact, so it is not a sexually transmitted disease. However, the infection can be passed on during sex, so it is recommended that you should not have sex until the infection has cleared up.
If you regularly suffer from thrush, then it's advisable that both you and your partner have thrush treatment at the same time.
Taking too much can make you unwell, so contact your doctor or nearest hospital immediately if you take more than you should.
As with any medicine, there are side effects. Although a serious allergic reaction to fluconazole is rare. Common side effects (occurring in one in ten patients) include nausea, stomach discomfort, diarrhoea, wind, rash and headache.
